FEEDSCHOOLS

FEEDSCHOOLS

In central Europe large parts of the existing building stock were built before 1970 and as a result, performance is not in line with required energy efficiency standards. Renovation of buildings emerges as an urgent issue but while incentives are provided to private investors, public building renovation is more difficult as local authorities face significant limitations of budget. Another barrier is the lack of knowledge of performance/cost characteristics for efficient renovation of buildings.

The FEEDSCHOOLS project aims to provide local authorities with new solutions, both technical and financial, which will help them to implement 'nearly Zero Energy Building' (nZEB) renovation activities in schools. The innovative approach consists in developing a transnational and holistic support toolkit and a web database of innovative best practices for nZEB renovation. FEEDSCHOOLS will also provide open lessons focused on behavioural change in schools. At least 48 energy audits will be implemented and preliminary plans for nZEB renovation of existing schools will become a reference models for the region.

Work packages & outputs

  • DEVELOPING CARBON FOOTPRINT AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY TOOLKIT - Work Package T1 main objective is to set up an innovative toolkit that will simplify energy audit process allowing significant economic and time savings while choosing optimized nZEB renovation option taking in account also renovation carbon footprint.
  • ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF OPTIMAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY FINANCING MODELS - Work Package T2 is aimed at setting up a Financial Application with successful funding models available in Central Europe that will allow public bodies to afford costs of schools nZEB renovation.
  • PILOT CASE STUDIES AND EVALUATION OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES - Work Package T3 tests and evaluates the project innovative approach and the complete FEEDSCHOOLS toolkit. The results of pilots will constitute basis for designing nZEB renovation plans for participating schools.
  • TRAINING, POLICIES AND PLANS - Work Package T4 aims at training final users of the FEEDSCHOOLS toolkit and at developing joint policy recommendations for decision makers as well as partner action plans in order to ensure sustainability of project results.
